Tausch 24. This painting is listed on the inventory of works seized at the BNCI Libourne and drawn up by Roganeau. For the exchange, on 24 November 1942 with Adolf Wüster of the German Embassy. Wendland made available a Gobelins tapestry and a painting in the genre of Cuyp. Jacques Beltrand estimated this painting at 200,000 francs on 23 November 1942. The painting somehow ended up with Martin Fabiani who sold it for two million francs to Raphael Gérard on February 5, 1943. Gérard disposed of the painting to an unknown party in August 1943. After being restituted to the Paul Rosenberg family, the Delacroix painting eventually ended up at the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany. |
