| Provenance and Comments: | According to French restitution records for Jacques Dreyfus, an item numbered Ka 199 was returned to him on 4 March 1950. It is described as a 'Personnage à cheval" to whom a servant is providing a drink. That description fits with the item that belongs to Alphonse Kann, numbered Ka 199. However, in Kann's restitution records, this work is attributed to Wouwerman. It is unclear as of now whether or not there was a clerical mistake made in the Dreyfus restitution file and, if not, what exactly did he receive with the designation of Ka 199. This item was packed in crate KA 18 at the Jeu de Paume, most likely in the first half of 1941. | ||||||||
