They were stolen from her Paris apartment, various bank vaults and her estate in Boulogne-sur-Seine. The thefts began in earnest in the summer of 1940 and did not stop until midway through 1941. | Provenance and Comments: | According to notes from Dr. Tomforde of the ERR staff at the Jeu de Paume this picture was sent to ERR headquarters at 54, Avenue d'Iena, for display. However, it does not show up on the Louvre Alexandrine de Rothschild stack list, despite the fact that it was transferred from the Louvre. Slated for return to M.A. for sale, this item was designated for transfer to Nikolsburg on 1 August 1944. However, the train never left Paris. | ||||||||
