Adolf Wuster, former cultural advisor to the German Embassy in Paris, testified in 1951 that a Mr. Helbig was offered the Wertheimer Pissarro painting but, on his advice, he did not acquire it because it had been stolen from Wertheimer. Presumably, the MFAA officials at the MCCP were aware of the painting's presence in Munich but did nothing to intercept it. In the early 1950s, the painting went from Berlin to Munich to Hamburg. |
