This work by Rouault was listed on a post-Liberation inventory dated 14 October 1944 of Mrs. Zak's belongings stored in a safe in Nice from which they were stolen by German agents. The work does not appear on another inventory of works belonging to Mrs. Zak and stored in the same safe in Nice. Hence, there is confusion as to whether this work actually did belong to Mrs. Zak. According to the French files, this work was found. However there is no indication of its restitution to Mr. Raykis, the executor of Mrs. Zak's estate. |
