| Literature: | This painting was purchased in Vienna from Willibald Duschnitz somewhere between 1926 and 1936. | ||||||||||||||||
| Provenance and Comments: | Apparently, this painting by van Goyen returned to France for restitution to the Strauss family, but somehow was "lost" in the shuffle. An exchange of letters dating from 1968 between Rose Valland and the French Museum Administration [Direction des musées nationaux] attests to this administrative snafu. No sign that the painting was returned to the Strauss heirs. | ||||||||||||||||
