| Provenance and Comments: | This item was in a crate supplied by the Schenker company and stored at the German Embassy in Paris in the summer of 1940. According to correspondence from senior staff at the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg in Paris, Count Avogli Trotti claimed in September 1943 a half interest in this painting by Greuze and demanded to be compensated for his loss as a result of the German confiscation of the Seligmann collections. | ||||||||||||||||
