Postwar German restitution authorities established that this work resembled an item removed from the collection of Robert de Rothschild and taken to the German Embassy in 1940. If this is the same one as that which belonged to Robert de Rothschild, it is difficult to explain how it could have been seized during Mobel-Aktion, two and a half years after the initial German embassy-ordered confiscations of Jewish collections. |
