Description: Cultural property belonging to the Paris Rothschilds (Edouard, James and others) was sequestered and confiscated on orders of the Vichy government and the Mayor of Cannes in late 1941 and offered up for auction as well as the family's estates in and near Cannes.
Public auctions of the contents of these estates were scheduled for January and March 1942.
It is not clear whether all proceeds benefited the municipality of Cannes. We do know that the Rothschilds sued the municipality for compensation after the end of WWII.
