| Provenance and Comments: | Knab removed the crate on 8 September 1943. The ERR inventory is unclear as to when these items entered the Jeu de Paume. The only certainty is that HS 23 a-c was packed as part of an old UNB group of objects looted in 1940-1941 and placed into a crate labeled HS 4 on 20 August 1943 and removed from the Jeu de Paume on 8 September 1943. A note on the ERR inventory indicates that these items may have been spotted in the French Zone of Occupation in Germany. However, according to the French restitution authorities, these items were located in the Soviet zone of occupation of Austria. Dr. Eggemann inventoried these items on 12 August 1943 at the Jeu de Paume. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
