Based on postwar correspondence between the MCCP in Munich, Germany, and the Dutch restitution authorities, Mr. Siegfeld was the owner of this painting attributed to Paul Bril. Mr. Siegfeld died in 1951 and his heirs were apprised of the presence of the painting at the MCCP. The painting was repatriated to the Netherlands on orders of Mr. Breitenbach (Munich CCP). It is unclear whether the Siegfeld heirs recovered the painting from the receiving Dutch authorities. |
