Provenance and Comments: | The ERR inventoried this drawing by Pascin as belonging to the Zach/Zack collection. However, this drawing appears on the Chaleyssin Gallery inventory of 56 works deposited at the Credit Commercial de France (CCF) in Nice as being the property of a Mr. David Golden, who was deported to Auschwitz from Drancy by train No. 76 on June 30, 1944. He was 51 years old. Mr. Laffaille, manager of the Galerie Chaleyssin, testified that he wrote on the back of the Pascin drawing that it belonged to Mrs. Zach/Zack, and alleged that it was a worthless fake. This drawing was placed on the 1 August 1944 train to Nikolsburg which was intercepted outside of Paris, After being returned to the Jeu de Paume, it was identified officially on 7 August 1945 as the property of David Golden. The fate of the drawing remains unclear. |
