| Literature: | According to the 2005 Pissarro catalogue raisonné, this painting was in the possession of Bernheim-Jeune as of 1920. | ||||||||||||
| Provenance and Comments: | The information about this painting by Pissarro in the ERR inventory differs from that which is typed on the card produced at the Jeu de Paume. A closer analysis of the ERR cards for UNB indicates that the measurements for UNB 9 are the same as for UNB 8. The true measurements for UNB 9 are 40,5 [41] x 54 cm as reflected on the back of the photograph and in the inventory. Hence, one could deduce that a clerical error occurred at the Jeu de Paume and the person responsible for typing up the UNB cards mixed up the measurements of UNB 8 with those of UNB 9. Moreover, according to the ERR inventory, Dr. von Frey obtained this painting by Pissarro through an exchange with the ERR.(Tausch 16: On May 14, 1942 the art dealer Dr. von Frey, Paris exchanged three degenerate paintings by Picasso, Pissarro and Renoir with two paintings, by Karl Blechen and Makart.)
