Provenance and Comments: | These items were in a crate supplied by the Schenker company and stored at the German Embassy in Paris in the summer of 1940. The difficulty lies in the fact that these painting numbers were already assigned to other crates in the Rose Valland's crate inventory for items stored at the German Embassy which were transferred to the Louvre and thence to the Jeu de Paume. A problem of correlation specific items with specific crates that is endemic to her inventory. |
