Provenance and Comments: | This painting by Camille Corot was stolen by German agents of the E.R.R. from a bank vault in Libourne, France, where Paul Rosenberg had stored at least 100 works of art from his collection for safekeeping. The painting was transferred to Paris, might have been stored for a while either at the Sequestre du Louvre or the Jeu de Paume, was never entered officially into the inventories of the ERR for works confiscated from Paul Rosenberg. The painting was the subject of an exchange (Tausch) and was sent to Galerie Fischer in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1942. |
