Provenance and Comments: | Considered for exchange. This painting by Henri-Edmond Cross was made available to Martin Fabiani as part of an exchange involving 54 modern works which was attempted in January 1944. The exchange failed but not all the paintings made it back to the Jeu de Paume. This one might have been one of the paintings which returned to the Jeu de Paume before being shipped to Nikolsburg in May 1944. This painting entered the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX, in 1958. |
